Scilla natalensis is a striking, hardy bulbous perennial admired for its tall, elegant flower spikes and bold foliage. Broad, fleshy, blue-green leaves form a handsome clump, followed in early summer by upright spikes packed with masses of soft blue to lilac, star-shaped flowers. The blooms are long-lasting and attract pollinators, adding gentle colour and structure to the garden. This South African species thrives in full sun to light shade and prefers well-drained soil. It’s water-wise, low-maintenance, and well suited to mixed borders, fynbos gardens, rockeries, and containers. Scilla natalensis is also known in traditional medicine for various uses.
