Romantic, full, and effortlessly beautiful — the Hydrangea macrophylla is a garden classic loved for its large clusters of blooms in shades of pink, blue, or lilac. Its rich foliage and abundant flowers bring softness and old-world charm to any garden, patio, or container display.
Each Hydrangea tells a story through its colour — influenced by the soil’s pH — making every plant beautifully unique. Whether used as a feature plant or in a flowering border, the Hydrangea macrophylla offers year-after-year beauty and elegance.
Plant Care Instructions
Light: Prefers morning sun and afternoon shade. Too much direct, harsh sunlight can scorch the leaves and flowers.
Water: Loves consistent moisture — keep soil evenly damp, especially during hot weather, but avoid waterlogging. Mulch around the base to help retain moisture.
Temperature & Humidity: Thrives in mild conditions. Protect from extreme heat and cold. Ideal for temperate gardens or partial-shade areas.
Feeding: Feed monthly during the growing season (spring to early autumn) with a fertiliser formulated for flowering plants. Adjust soil pH to influence bloom colour (acidic for blue, alkaline for pink).
Pruning: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Avoid cutting back too hard as next year’s blooms form on old wood.
Soil: Prefers rich, well-draining soil. Add compost to improve texture and nutrients.
Flowering: Blooms from late spring through summer, producing full, rounded flower heads that last beautifully on the plant or in vases.
